Hi Peter,

What is your reasoning behind deciding to post this? In other words, please elaborate.

Mike

Interesting if its just a typical response,

What if someone suggest they all crap in a bucket, then wear the bucket as a hat.

I wonder what catagory that would be put under.

Ah now that would possibly work better than than some of the methods BP have used

I cant beleive after 1.6 billion $ they have got nowhere.

1.6 Billion?.....Holy bucket full of poop

I wonder, .....since now people are tired of hearing bailout from the government. Is this a new delivery program and they just relabeled it?

Yes, I know it was just an accident....sort of, so far.

What I can stand, is I'm taking classes at college for project management, and this professors MS and PH d's are saying, its simple, just cap it. simply, done.

What I can't stand more than people who do not know what they are talking about, is over educated people who do not know what they are talking about.

And there is a lot of over educated over paid engineers in the oil industry who cant think outside the box.

Now they have an unusual problem they cannot be inventive enough to come up with decent working solutions.

If i have access to 1.6 billion £ or $ i am sure i would of come up with somthing that would have worked by now.

They have tried putting a large bell like structure over it and sucking the oil out that didnt work, Doh !

They tried cutting it with a dimond cutting wire That didnt work (cos they were cutting the wrong way )( imagine cutting a branch off a tree, you wouldnt cut upwards so as you got half way through the weight of the branch is pressing down on the saw would you ?) well (no pun intended) THEY DID, AND WHEN THEY GOT HALF WAY THROUGH THE WEIGHT OF THE PIPE TRAPPED THE CABLE....WOW WHO WOULD OF THOUGHT IT.

I do not know what kind of problems they are dealing with, but I do know, when a project goes south and starts to turn brown. It can become a bottomless money pit quickly

A few years before I started working at this shipyard, They built I believe was a 142 foot patrol craft.

One the yard birds, (who was not noted for his smarts) was fitting and mentioned that the rotational arrows on the transmission were going the opposite way from the arrows on the screws.

To replace the transmission, the hull had to be split.

re your comment about the patrol craft that is a good example of over paid engineers.

Ive worked on cars most of my life and they were designed by morons.

its almost impossible to work easily on modern cars because you cant get at any thing.

A really good example was a ford cortina some years ago.

now as you know when you open the bonnet (hood for the colonies) there is a big gap at the front, loads of space to get things in and out.

so why did they make the cam shaft go out via the cars dash board

Yes you had to remove the heater and most of the dash to get the cam shaft out.

Its just amazing what clever engineers come up with.

There was once to go the other way a really good idea on the UK triumph dolomite, if you wanted to change the clutch all you had to do was pull away the carpet by the gear lever, remove the metal transmission cover

undo the is motion shaft pull it backwards then rotate the flywheel and undo the bolts and the clutch and the cover could be removed like a large DVD all from inside the car Cool eh?

and when i first started in the motor trade i work at a lot of different garages and got to compare the different manufacturers

Toyota was head and shoulders above all the US And European cars.

They looked as though they looked at all the good ideas on all the cars of the world and used all the good ideas and built their cars with all the good bit.

Except possibly the accelerator system.

I have thought of lots of ways to stop the leak and i am sure there are lots of people out there who have also thought of good ideas, The problem is we dont work for BP.

Our yard was a small yard, 1,000 give or take employee's, puts as in a positive catagory for government contracts for small business.

I do not believe our engineers were over paid.

We has a naval architect....? But most of our engineers were injured yard birds (Welders, Fitters, and such) that was placed in engineering....for light dutys

My appologies i use the term over paid engineers to refer to who ever designed the craft.

my mistake for use of the word engineers.

Please read as naval architect or designers. please delete the word engineers

Sorry again for any offence, None intended

Answer to problem is forthcoming.

We said from day (10-15) that as soon as those white pretty beaches of Florida turned black and brown with crude....the answer to the leaking well would be found.

Mind you. not tar balls, not sheen....but that pancake and syrup batter stuff that is coating 124 miles of prime Louisiana marsh.
