Hi all, is there an ASME standard which guide the user in selecting the correct branch sizes from the main headers? Thank you.

Well, again I am guessing here......the poster seems to be interested in piping system design, although he does not state this.

Piping system design in a distributed system involves evaluating the relative areas and velocities of the fluid.

The ASME B31.3 and B31.1 codes only provides rules to be used in designing a safe piping system. There are no ASME rules for sizing piping branches.

Branch sizes would be selected from the flow requirements, which I don't think are governed by ASME. However, once the sizes have been determined, various piping code may dictate the method of construction, such as pipe ends cut to saddle off the main, or weldolets, or tees with reducers. This depends on the pressure involved and on your locale.
