Continuous Recording

06/26/2010 3:32 PM

I'm looking for some advice. The Oregon Caves National Monument has asked me to install an antique wood wall telephone in their antique telephone booth located inside the lodge. They want to tourists to be able to listen to a recording talking about the Caves, Monument, Lodge etc. whenever the receiver is picked up and put to their ear. I'm sure that there is something out there that is more high tech than an old continuous loop tape player. I will be placing a small 2" speaker inside the receiver (Part you hold to your ear) which will be activated by the hook switch located on the side of the antique telephone. Thanks, Ron

Perhaps an MP3 player (or WAV, any personal digital audio device) would do the trick? You could rig the phone hook to press play or skip (whatever works) to start at the beginning of the (next or only) track.

It seems that starting at the beginning of a presentation would be preferable to turning on the speaker at any random point.

I don't see any value added by having it shut off when the earpice is put back on the hook, but that could also be accomplished with a little added complexity.

I agree with Ace, it doesn't make sense to have a continuous loop playing - it makes more sense to start at the beginning whenever the phone is picked up. Otherwise, people will be picking up the receiver and getting the end or the middle....

A simple mp3 or wav would do it.

"Never let "em see you sweat" is an old expression that comes to mind.

Once they find your weak spot, they will exploit it.Obviously, you over-reacted to a previous post being labeld off topic and now "they" know how to get to you.

Do not give them the satisfaction.

Ignore their immature childish antics and they will stop.

Unless of course, you are immature and childish.

What you are looking for is a recording module, this is what you find in Greeting cards.

The easy source is Radio Shack.

Having a 20 second one, part # 276-1323 to demo with has helped with several little things where you need a record statment.

This model was very inexpensive, under $10.
