ELCD Failure - Kyoritsu 5402D RCD Tester

06/29/2010 8:09 AM

What does it mean when a ELCB trips, when testing it with a Kyoritsu 5402D RCD Tester, set to "No Trip"

As far as I am aware, ELCBs are set to trip at a specific current level. This depends upon exactly where in the supply its connected. (I do seem to have a vague recollection of around 30 ma of fault current.....which is confirmed in this excellent article here:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_leakage_circuit_breaker

So if it is tripping before this specific level, (as you appear to be suggesting!) I would say that the ELCB has a fault and is set to being "over sensitive" to low current levels.....send it back for repair or replacement!!!

For my pennyworth.... So called "no trip" testers still trip, especially the old Robin range,of which i believe the Kyoritsu is the same, but re-badged
