how about a piping erosion monitoring system? when the pressure in the pipe becomes close to the point it would break a valve would close blocking the fluid, dont know what else i could incorporate

Ah, that should elicit some ideas/comment etc...
Not my field, I just wanted to get the ball rolling and point out how we tend to think on here....you wouldn't believe how many 'Have you any ideas for a project' Qs we get.
I hope someone helps you out now.

Piping erosion monitoring isn't usually done. What happens when an upstream power source is unavailable (rhetorical question)?

What is done is the following:

  • The materials of construction [MoC] of the pipe are selected so as to be chemically compatible with process fluids inside them
  • ditto for mechanical compatibility - is there a need to pass solids along this pipeline or can they be separated-out before the piping sees them (rhetorical question)?
  • The thickness of the pipe walls, the MoC and the diameter of the pipe determine the pressure rating of the pipe system. The piping can now be selected from standardised tables.
  • The maximum pressure of the system is determined by looking carefully at all sources of pressure upstream and downstream, and the limitations on them.
  • If the pipework isn't strong enough for the maximum possible, though it is strong enough for the usual operating pressures, then steps are taken to either:
    • reduce the maximum operating pressure to within the maximum pipework strength pressure by selecting different equipment, or,
    • move up to a stronger class of pipework, or,
    • provide some pressure relief system to vent-off the material that is causing the overpressure condition in the vessels feeding the pipework. Usually this involves opening a vent valve, like the one on top of a steam boiler, or a bursting disc/panel somewhere in the system, like on some pressurised reactor vessels.
  • Finally, the plant is sent through a formal Haz(ard and )Op(erability) Study, with a broad range of specialists present around the flowsheet simultaneously, to make sure that as far as is reasonably practicable the plant has been designed and selected to be safe to operate.

More entry-level information on HazOp Studies can be found in Wikipedia, where there is a comprehensive article on the topic.

Building management system is very interesting field. Good scope for introducing more automation especially on energy conservation and sustainable design concepts. Discuss with your professor if it is academic project and get his suggestions and guidance

Hi,

You can take up any project in automation, to help farming operation.

We will consider it for funding.

Which branch of engineering you would like to take up Project on Automation?. Please clarify so that there can be more suggestions.

you could be challenged by conveyor or traffic analysis.

For instance, if two connected conveyors start out running at different speeds, write the algorithm that will pull them together and run at the same speed.

In traffic, what is more efficient - traffic lights or stop signs (include allowances for traffic density); how about freeway entrance metering lights (who are the better for: those who live near the terminus or those who live distant).

Post your results so we can adjust public policy appropriately.
