Hydraulic Power System Standards

I work for a power utility. I am required to write a technical specification for a hydraulic power system (hydraulic power pack) to actuate the emergency brakes for the hoist drum of the overhead crane in our workshop (190T). Can any one provide some assistance in this regard? I have tried to search for Standards related to hydraulic power packs but to no avail. Has any one ever done this type of work before or can one refer me to the international codes and standards to use to use for this work. Thanking you in advance.

yes , the Hydralic power pack with Disc brake is available in india & foregin.

some make Twiflex ,i worked in this and commisoned the crane for hoist .for any detail please call sbs@kalyanigerdau.com

I would suggest that you get a specialist to help you develop your specification. Hire as a consultant. This may be a current fluid power vendor that the utility uses.

they may quote on the job as well but getting them to take some of the responsibility in developing the specification is a separate job worth the money as your questions indicate you are not qualified to do it. No insult intended. You will sleep better. Does not take all your responsibility away but getting free advice is often what it is worth.

Some free advice from me is that emergency brakes are typically spring applied. No outside power required. Makes them more intrinsically safe. They are typically released with hydraulics. If the hydraulic system pressure is too low the brakes come on. If a line ruptures the brakes come on. If the electrical goes out the brakes come on. If a solenoid fails the system comes on. You get the idea. The hoist manufacturer should have specifications. The valving that pilots them should be venting the brake release in their normal position. The valve would be actuated often electrically to pilot the brake off. This can be tied into various limit switches and the like so that under various circumstances the the valve is deactivated and the brakes get applied.

A good hydraulic vendor should be able to figure this out. If you are looking for pressure rating type codes. Rating all components for atleast 1.5X max working pressure in the system is an acceptable safety factor for such a critical application. Remember hyraulics are like any mechanical system they fail sometimes. Ensuring that the components are from a quality manufacturer is a good idea.

Sir,

a good advise. Normally I would call on the suppliers design person and ask him to explain the working of the system and ask all stupid questions to understand the way in which he has developed the system. It helps.
