Anybody Know Where I Could Get a Miniature Cyclical Transmission?

07/08/2010 3:23 PM

i have a project that i need a very precise power transfer to a ball screw driving a hydraulic cylinder. it has to be very quiet and able to have very high torque. at first i thought i would have to use a planetary gear box, but that would be noisy. but i think a cyclical reducer would be perfect. i can seem to find any kind of site online that sells them or even gives any details and types that are out there. youtube has lots of vids about them though, but i need to find one to buy. needs to be about 4"X4" size.

Try Escap (usual disclaimer) in Switzerland, perhaps?

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do, but the zeromax drives are quiet.

BenJ,

I think a worm drive will be quiet and provide the large reduction you seek. I do think that variations in the transmission, ball screw and cylinder assembly will limit the system repeatability; think about the lost motion in such a system.

do you think it would be possible to use some kind of heavy duty solenoid like coil that would drive a core that is about 1.5" DI using a DC voltage and depending on that that voltage the pressure that is delivered could be varied? would a electromagnetic coil be capable of producing up tp 150 lbs of pressure? what kind of power would i have to input to the coil?
