CNG Kit for Indica Kit

07/09/2010 3:53 AM

I have purchased second hand Indica Xeta GLS 2006 model fitted with CNG Kit. I was not aware of the brands of CNG kits. When I took it to the garage, mechanic told that this is having a vaporizor (Bedini make). Eventhough the engine was hot after some running, this varporizor was sweating. Mechanic told that such situation gives lesser mileage and less pickup. This brand vaporizor is not suitable to Xeta. I should go for replacing it with Landi make CNG kit except for the cylinder. If Landi make CNG kit is installed, there will be more mileage and good pickup. Mechanic is 100% sure. Approx. 10 K to 11 K will be the expenditure.

I have tried to check the mileage with existing cng kit. After fill cng with 9 kg, 50% cng has run 67 km.

What is the exact problem. Whether mechanic is right or I need to check it with some good mechanic having knowledge of cng system and setting.

Whether it requires good tuning or some other problem is existing?

Please guide me.

Regards,

Rahul Patel

"Faced with numerous CNG-related complaints, TATA organized a systematic recall and retrofit of Bedini equipment which included a new improved Lamda sensor / electronic control unit, Bedini emulator and new wiring harness approved and tested by both TATA and ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) from 28–31 May 2007. With the new system, TATA aims to improve gas delivery and performance."

I have limited experience with CNG autos, but what your mechanic is saying doesn't make sense to me! CNG has less power than gasoline and will not achieve the same mileage per gallon, typically 10 to 15% less.

One question - are you using CNG or is it LNG ???

Do remember that car engines on gas have considerably more heat to get rid of than when running on petrol, which is why most installers of gasification equipment often completely ban the use of gas when towing or heavily loaded, as the petrol engine may be on the limits of heat dissapation/cooling.....a hot day? a hot climate?

I have seen pictures of Petrol engines that have been wrecked by (usually) towing a heavy load with gas being used.....a friend of mine is in the business.....

Depending of course upon the climate where you are. I am speaking for Germany only, but the whole European area is probably exactly the same.....

The "sweating" is most likely due to the fact that as the liquid gas changes into a true gas form, a lot of heat is required, this cools the unit down so that sometimes a thin layer of frost/moisture may appear.....completely normal business....refrigeration effect I call it but that is not the correct technical term, which I am just too lazy to look up right now!!! Let someone else do that for you!!.
