High Temperature ASTM A106

07/13/2010 5:20 PM

Who knows the initial high temperature to use the ASTM A106 tube? I can´t find that X°F or X°C.

Regards

Rosendo, I have a copy of ASTM A 106 in the office. I can look in the morning. Off hand, I don;t remember it as having service temperatures, just standard provision, dimension and mechanical testing information.

Thanks Tornado.

You saved me, the article says that 100°F is the initial of "High Temperature", ref. ASME B31.1.

I agree with Milo. ASTM 106 standard would not be containing any information about the high temperature up to which this pipe can be used.

You must look into ASME Sec. II part D or ASME B 31.3 (see allowable stress tables) or any other applicable standard for allowable stress at different temperature and then evaluate your case in the light of applicable design code.

What I have experienced, A 106 can be used effectively up to 400 deg C.

Both Tornado and Ashfaqanwer have provided good insight.

ASTM A 106 does not contain any references to temperature of use other than the title "for high temperature service." Paragraph 1.3 states that if the material is to be used in applications conforming to ISO Recommendations for boiler construction, then the requirements of ASTM A 520 (Mechanical Property Requirements Section) shall apply.

ASTM A 520 also had nothing on Temperatures of Service.

Hey, guys, good evenning.

I found two articles that describes the initial temperature of "High Temperature" (above 150°F = 66°C) piping systems; the first one ASME B31.8 (865.1) and the other one ASME SFA-5.10, SECTION II, Table A" (cont´d) in general notes # 1.
