What size is the brick? How thick is the mortar joint?

~1.1/(volume of brick + mortar). The reason for 1.1 rather than 1 is to account for bricks that must be cut to fit at each end of the wall.

For good quality face bricks with small tolerances of L/B/W of 5/3/3 mm then 52 bricks/m2.

For rough stock bricks or fancy stuff with 12 mm grout then somewhere between 45 and 54 bricks/m2.

This assumes a brick of standard L/B/W of 222/106/73 mm.

You do not state where in the World you are, but these dimensions are for imperial bricks, so if you are in one of the old British colonies they may well suit.

Used to make these things for a living in a previous life........
