ESA Call for Proposals

07/19/2010 11:53 PM

Here is a little something that may be of interest to someone here.

The ACT released the first Ariadna Call for Proposals for 2010.

Universities are invited to submit proposals for the two following studies:

  • Assessment of the Impact of the Release of Greenhouse Gases into the Martian Atmosphere using Numerical Evaluations Derived from Martian Global Circulation Models
  • Space Trajectory Optimisation under Uncertainties

The deadline to submit a proposal is 3rd September 2010.

Kind regards,

The Advanced Concepts Team

Well, I am not a university, so I suppose I can kiss that goodbye. Thanks a heap.

Tornado:

If you live near a university with a good science and chemistry program you may still be in the game.

Perhaps that University would be interested in such a project. You might even be able to snag a few hours of Individual Studies credit just writing the proposal.

The purpose of my posting this thing was just to cast a little wider net for ESA. It would be really cool to see a US University connect with these folks.

We have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

I know nothing of this stuff but I wonder what advantage there would be to release green house gases just to have them stripped away my the solar wind.

Mars is a has been - the real interest is in what might have been; not what could be.

Venus is the obvious choice for terraforming experiments. I don't understand the focus on Mars except for the fact that its gravity well is much less than Venus making departure much less energy intensive.

I am not smart enough to compare the Holman transfer energies so I don't know which planet requires the least transfer energies.

I do believe Venus has the most raws materials for altering equilibrium temperature and establishing colonies. Perhaps not on the planets surface but floating in the atmosphere.

I wish there were greater cooperation in space applications.
