Is this really 6" - as the A said to the B.

Don't you think you should give us some clues, like the material properties of the insulation, desired temperature of the insulation ...............????????

If the insulation material were one of those new-fangled aerogels, a few mm would do.

According to my recollection, with an outer surface temperature of 450 C, I believe that you would need about 4 to 5 inches of calcium Silicate.

Its OK for use to ~540 C

Look at www.engineeringtoolbox.com

I agree. Who pulls the operating temp and finds the surface temp of a line without knowing the calculation for optimum insulation thickness?

I sure Rock wool or Calcium Silicate , thickness 2 1/2" is ok for this temp & Pipe OD
