Performance of Motors

07/21/2010 8:43 PM

I often heard a word "DYNAMICS"when speaking about cars and motors, like "improved dynamics of motor","this car is of better dynamics than the previous model".

can anyone tell me, what the dynamic means?

They have dictionaries for this.

Dynamics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Look up semantics.

This is what we call "marketing hype". Look that up, too.

But in the world of "Marketing Speak" it's usually a term used to describe something as being better than everyone else' something without actually saying anything that can be disproven by nasty little facts...

Without disagreeing with "its market hype" comments, the technical meaning of the word usually relates to vehicle handling - how quickly and how predictably a car might swerve to avoid an obstacle, or enter a corner, or even hold a straight line, for example.

The word "dynamics" is used because such phenomena can only be assessed in terms that involve time and movement, i.e. acceleration and velocity. As you would probably know, the force and a damper exerts within a suspension system is a function of how quickly it is compressed or extended.

The whole science of improving vehicle dynamics is very complex with many variables interacting. The result is also one that is somewhat subjective, so that there is, as others have suggested, a lot of room for marketing spin types to use the word in product promotion where the claims could be quite tenuous (hard to prove).

You'd be surprised if a motor company came out with a slogan like:-

"STANDS STILL better than any other car on the market."
