Compressor selection

07/23/2010 11:10 AM

I need to size a compessor purchase for an upcoming project. The demand for the instrument air I'll need is;

10 liters/min @ 3 barG +

20 liters/min @ 3 barG +

1 liter/min @ 2 barG

How many CFM @ 50 psi should I shop for?

Thanks.

1 CFM = 28.3 L/min

3 barG = 43.5 psig

31/28.3 = 1.10 CFM

Something like this would probably work.

This is basic knowledge for me - not much experience, so wait for some of the others who will have more experience to weigh in before buying. (Just to be sure)

Thanks! Actually, that's dead on with what I came up with using this. On a more specific note, the device in question is a COSA 9600 calorimeter. A shop compressor with much more capacity than we calcuated was being emptied! As of today the thing is on it's way to the shop in Houston for eval. Have a good weekend.

Your requirement appears to be not clear. normally the air requirement is expressed in Nm3/hour OR SCFM. So, if it is in different form, convert it in any of these two & ask the compressor supplier. They will guide you.

Here some more suggestion for you:

1) Compressor disch. pressure should be minimum 50 psi(g).

2) As, use is for instrument air, think of installing driers too.
