Is it tin foil hat season?

07/26/2010 3:49 PM

I have always seen CR4 as a place to read level headed, well reasoned discussions even when there was a difference of opinion. Positions are usually backed up by links to third party outside references and/or with sound explanations and even the detailed calculations. Lately however I have seen posts from moon landing deniers, anti-vaccination wingnuts and prepetual motion machine buildiers. Except for the last case the posts were allowed to stand unchallenged. Please don't tell me that CR4 is sinking to the level of the majority of the internet.

It might be more of a case of "If you don't feed it then it will go away". (Sorry Del, I know this hits close to home)

I have noticed that a "no response" posting tends to stay a "no response" posting. But, once there is a response then they get a lot of responses. If it stays "no response" then I and other "drive by CR4 readers" don't waste our limited time on it. When there are a lot of responses we end up reading it and then feeling like we wasted our time.

There also have been a few nut cases that just won't give up. You can't win a war of logic and facts with an opponent that is unarmed.

Homework for Guests, ... no, let's not go there.

I don't want to go Blinkey or SteveS so I just go away until after they go away.

By the way, nice hat Del.

what's wrong with wingnuts?

On the vaccination thread, there seems to be more pro- than anti-inoculation posts. And I agree with you; I can't think of a valid reason for not vaccinating as many people as possible. For everything.

Maybe it's the full moon. Maybe it's just a weird worldwide convergence of loons on the 'net.

But, in any case:

Sometimes you have to just accept the old adage: Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and it annoys the pig.

What's the point in arguing with Moon landing deniers? A person could spend an awful lot of time trying to persuade them, and at the end of the day that person has wasted hours that could have been used doing something fun or useful. -- Like putting tinfoil hats on cats.

I have a (supposedly) well-educated friend who is totally convinced that the moon landing is a hoax. I find it incredible that people actually think this way. Then again, I still think there's a little dude in my refrigerator who turns the light on and off.

I once had a very red-neck guy tell me he didn't believe it because he couldn't see the American flag when he looked at the Moon with his 'scope. Initially I though 'this guy has a telescope?' then I realized he meant the 'scope mounted on his hunting rifle.

You go, Buzz! I don't advocate violence, but that pencil-necked geek posing as a reporter was asking for it.

Hi Apothicus,

I think it's somewhat cyclical, but I haven't figured the cause or causes, Vader's dumb ray notwithstanding.

I'm more vexed by the "I want detailed explanation of why water boils with calculations and schematic" URGENT NEED FOR ANSWER NOW!

The best thing to do is ignore them, but sometimes it's difficult.

Cheers.

"Vader's dumb ray notwithstanding."

Okay, looks like the cat's out of the bag (and I don't mean Del). Ah well, I did advice the Emperor that it would be impossible to conduct such a large-scale mind-f**k experiment without smarter people eventually clueing in, but he still insisted upon it.

Guess he's still awed by the results of the untargetted unrestricted mind-clouding experiment I carried out here earlier this year......

reasons for seasons?

(a) too hot to wear tinfoil

(b) it's something in the sunscreen

(c) really... the offending parties are minions of a vast conspiracy designed to ruin your day, and yours alone.

(d) conspiracy forums closed for holidays
