Is there a liquid acrylic that I can use in a mold for a lampshade which will be heat resistant? I am in north FL. Thanks
Well, yes, but.........polyester resin is much easier to work with and less expensive.
True acrylic resins require accurate mixing and more sophisticated processing equipment.
Do you have any experience molding thermoset plastics?
no. I am truly a novice. I had an idea for a craft, but am wondering how to make it work. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.
Acrylic is not for beginners.
First, watch this:
Casting polyester resin in silicon mold
This will lead to others. I'm sure there are forums on casting with polyester.
Visit the websites .
Good luck.
And, sorry I can't resist. It's the same in south FL, too.
Heat resistance would be my primary concern along with ultraviolet radiation. If your light source is cool and doesn't emit UV, you should be ok. An LED light source might work.
This might be worth looking into, http://www.shopmaninc.com/kk121.html. I think I've seen small kits at Home Depot.
thanks for your help guys.
