Its definitely a 'gift', whether we / I was born for engineering is another matter...

I know my curiosity was the first part of wondering about what makes things work...

In fact it was as a 5 year old I was playing with my brother and an old radio chassis (valve of course!), pretending it was a bomb I think, and our dad casually said,

"watch out it may still have juice in it and be dangerous"...

Well, what kid wouldn't want to know about this so called 'juice'?!!
