Greetings fellow CR4'ers.
So, I find myself dealing with an issue for the first time; tree sap on my car. Today marks the conclusion of two weekends of trying various entry-level remedies… (e.g. washing with very hot water and elbow grease, different kinds of soaps, etc) all to no avail.
I now am beginning the next phase of sap remediation. Concurrent with this post, I am starting to log all the places I've parked my car over the past month and then will research those areas in an attempt to identify the types of trees and, as a result, the potential type of sap.
I will also start my internet searching tonight. But when it comes to putting anything but soap, water, and car wax on my car's exterior, I am quite hesitant. And since anyone can post on the internet, I am going to hold all information garnered there as suspect.
I am hoping that this forum might provide some sound advice. Seeing as how we have a plethora of automobile enthusiasts here who are also very technically competent in many scientific fields, there might be someone that has had to deal with this issue and found a good method to remove the sticky parasite from a horseless-carriage without damaging it's finish.
Through my efforts to remove it to-date, I have only succeeded at spreading it around and thinning it out. As it has since picked up foreign particulate; a mat finish is developing and… well… looks like crap.
The car in question is a 2010 Ford Fusion, Tuxedo Black in color. I presume that it has a factory-applied clear coat of which I have not researched yet so I am unfamiliar with what it is, how it's applied, and its compatibility to various type of things that could be applied to remove the sap.
Your input would be graciously appreciated.
