Solar/Wind Grid Tie

08/03/2010 9:28 PM

Hello

I would like to build my own solar/wind inverter, I was wondering if there are any designs out there I could use as a reference. Also my utility company does not support grid tie, what I would like to do is simply use my system to supply my own power but have it isolated from the the main utility such that when power is available from my system it is used but the system switches automatically and seemlessly I want to combine solar/wind, I have a separate garage at home that is fed from a 2pole 60amp breaker from my 200amp main in my house. Could I install my system in my garage and use that line to feed my home etc...

Thanks for any help

I remember an instructor in my electrical continuing education class telling us about a similar story.

He at the time was an area rep for the state board of electricity here in Minnesota

when the person did what you described at wanting to do,he was promptly arrested, and his power was cut from the utility until a licensed electrician was brought in and corrected it

as a licensed master electrician, I would advise you to NOT do it

but then, I don't pay your house insurance

Note to licensed master electrician from Minnisota ..... thanks for the advice, fortunately for me I don't live in Minnisotta as you can see I cant even spell it. By the way wasn't it someone from out that way who dropped a wrench not all that long ago and shut down half the continent.
