Gauge Pressure

08/04/2010 3:35 AM

Hello,

In a pipeline, the pressure gauge reads only static (fluid) pressure or does it read

dynamic pressure as well?

Thanks.

A gauge is used only to indicate the static pressure in the pipe. Fluid velocity can be measured by using a differential pressure (DP) gauge/transmitter. A device in the pipe that will create a region of higher pressure (dynamic pressure) that is proportional to the velocity of the fluid in the pipe, such as an orifice or a venturi, is used with the DP gauge. The difference between the static and dynamic pressures is proportional to the fluid velocity.
