96 Saturn SL

08/12/2010 12:29 PM

When I was driving the rpms would rev up in any gear I shifted to when I stopped there was smoke coming from the driver side. Afterwards I was drIving it and the rpms was still doing the same thing. Then it would not go anywhere. When I stopped I tried to Put it in any gear even reverse and let go of the clutch and it did not die it just stayed running.

You burnt your clutch out. You are not going to get anywhere till it is replaced.

So its not my upper arm bar or the pressure plate or a sensor that's what everyone is telling me

The components you listed are part of the clutch. If you replace one peice but not the whole thing, you are going to have sreious problems.

The driven plate is the replaceable part. it is squeezed by the pressure plate into the flywheel at the output shaft (back) of the motor.

If you "ride" the clutch it will wear out much more quickly.

It's possible there is a bent arm, but doubtful.

Good luck.

I concur with Dr. farmatt's diagnosis. Apparently you didn't like my response to the other thread?

Three votes for burned up clutch. Tow it to a transmission shop. They can fix it for you; not really a big deal.

If you disagree or want a different opinion, simply start another thread.

Another vote for the driven plate (ie, "clutch plate"). While it's being replaced have the mechanic thoroughly clean the pressure plate and the interior of the transmission bell housing, making sure that all the clutch dust is removed. Probably it's not a bad idea to replace the "Throw-out bearing" as well while your at it.

Good luck with the repairs!
