Lost Remote Control

08/12/2010 5:59 PM

I have lost remote control for my ceiling fan. This also controlled light in the room. Replacement costs lot of money. Any suggestion or help will be greatly appreciated.

I doubt you had any reason to remove the remote from that room. Get off the couch and tear everything apart until you find it.

Yes, you can use your hands and feet to manually operate them.

I did have a twinge of guilt after I hit the send button, but it soon passed.

Anyway, I hope the poor soul didn't take me seriously.

And for my money, KJK/USA has a viable solution. GA for him.

From a quick look on The Google, it seems OEM replacement remote controls only cost $25-$40. That's "a lot of money"? I'd say any alternate solution (other than others have suggested getting up and adjusting it yourself) is going to cost you that much or more.

Pry open the wallet or live with it as is.

Should only cost about 10 cents!

We have several remote control ceiling fans in our house and none of them have the pull controls. This means that chains are out of the question and without a remote the fan/lights are either off (via the light switch) or on in the last mode you left them in (i.e. fan on speed two and lights off). If the light was in the off position the last time the remote was around, then flipping the manual switch would do nothing for you.

Replacements for ours are $25 at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Generally, a ceiling fan has a RC device just above the fan and the transmitter or control is handheld. The whole pair costs around $35 USD. You didn't explain what was wrong, but usually the batteries are bad. Is that the problem? The next probable cause of failure is the wire connections in the fan. Check those. But really, you have to trouble shoot the problem like all problems. Does the fan work without using the remote? And so on. Answer the questions, and I'll walk you through a repair if you want to do it. ~~ Nehmo
