SS 316 TI Requirement

08/16/2010 12:09 AM

Respected sir,

Our Client has enquiry for Impeller of Blowers for that they want ss 316 ti material. Blower is for Petrochemical Industries. Can we go for ss 316L material instead of ss 316 TI material. ss 316 ti material is available or not ? Manufacturing of Impeller is by Welding.

Hello Guest,

Thank you for your Inquiry.

  1. What specific chemicals will the blower be exposed to?
  2. What temperatures will the blower be exposed to?

If the blower will only see hydrocarbons and a temperature low enough to not change the impeller's metallurgy, SS316L would work. That being said, 316 Ti has better high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance than 316L. Perhaps it would be best to go with the client's advice on this.

Mike

It depends on the operating temperature. 316 Ti is a stabilized grade that is less sensitive to carbide precipitation when exposed for long period of time in a certain range of temperature, 425-815 °C. You should carefully review the operating conditions of your equipment..
