Wiring a 110 VAC Vicker Coil Pack

08/17/2010 12:24 PM

Can anyone help me Have a directional hydraulic valve with two Vicker P/N 633741 coil packs 110 VAC. They have two leads from each coil. How do I wire them up? The coils operate opposing each other to control hydraulic flow forward neutral reverse inside a valve body. I would like to use a toggle switch with normal neutral default.

Your choice of toggle switch is good; it is called a single-pole double-throw switch, and will have three wiring connections. Almost invariably, the center connection will be common, and the switch can connect it to either (but not both) of the other two.

From your 110vac supply, identify the "hot" (should be black) and neutral (should be white) conductors. Wire "hot" to the common terminal on the switch. If the solenoids on each end of your valve have black and white wires, run a black wire from each of the other two switch terminals to each black solenoid wire. Connect both of the white solenoid wires to the neutral of the supply.

The supply should also have a grounding connection with green markings and green wiring. This should be connected to the metal housing or body of the valve assembly.

This description would be typical in the U.S. Other countries may use other colors and methods.

That doesn't allow for the Neutral position ....

True; I should have said SPDT with center position off.

Are you sure you are describing this correctly? Ordinarily, the neutral leg should not be switched.
