Callibration of CNG Tanks

Can anyone help me with advising me in regard to the Calibration of CNG tanks? Baiscally I am looking for is the smaller ones installed in Vehicles and factories. How do they calibrate these? Geometrical Dimensioning with assuming that the density/pressure/temp being constant?

Hi JCS,

All the CNG tanks I have seen have been described by their liquid volume i.e., 100 liter, 500 liter etc. Within a capacity there may be 2 or 3 options of length and diameter to allow for installation in different locations.

A pressure gauge is used to indicate how much gas is in the tank. Full at 210bar and empty @ 20bar or similar.

Thanks, Was planning to buy a kit to include as a part of my services. Will google it and see if I can get one, maybe we gotta assemble and make one ourselves.

I would suspect that the availability of control components would be limited and if your engine is a modern fuel injected one you will have to get the engine re-mapped on a dynomometer.

On the practicalities of piping you should use fine grade stainless steel tube with twin ferrule compression fittings and when you are testing the pipework etc your test pressure should be 300bar. Don't forget to fence off the area around you test pieces with an exclusion zone of at least 3m. You don't want to be any closer when you are strength testing the pipework and fittings.
