Wireless Speaker Compatibility

08/22/2010 8:20 AM

We have a Blue Ray DVD player purchased in the US this year along with wireless speakers and are wondering if they will work with a new LG TV we just brought in Indonesia (we live in Jakarta)? Electronics are highway robbery here due to import taxes. Thanks

I don't know, but I think that "REGION CODES" are the words to Google when working on this issue.

If your power distribution in Indonesia is compatible with your wireless speakers and DVD player then you can try them on your new TV. You will quickly know if the power grid is compatible because your 120VAC line cords may not fit your power outlets. Now depending on which Blue Ray DVD player you purchased you may or may not be able to play a DVD from a different region, but I believe that the USA and Indonesia are the same DVD code region so this may never be noticed.

I am a insulted by your question though. If you thought that every DVD player and TV was identical everywhere around the world then you shouldn't be asking this question at all. Since you thought that they differed then why didn't you tell us which player and TV you have so that we might be able to look up which formats they use.

According to Wikipedia, blu ray discs for Indonesia use the same region code as the U.S., so there shouldn't be a compatibility issue.

You might consider Netflix, by the way, which (once you pay a small monthly membership fee) allows 'free' movies as direct downloads to your computer, or direct to your TV if you have a Netflix-compatible player (Sony PlayStation, Xbox, Wii, or many others). I think it works anywhere there is a high-speed internet connection.
