My uncle had regular piles... Gravel piles sound VERY uncomfortable.

malgré cela: gravel piles go down to a lower stronger layer of load bearing material - very much like normal piles

Gentlemen,

Gravel or Stone Piles are basically used to improve the load carrying capacity of ground to support heavy loads within tolerable limit of settlement. This is a ground improvement technique. Bores are made in the ground at calculated spacing and depth and gravels are filled in the bore holes under vibration.
