How to Calculate Gear Ratio for Single Stage Planetary Gear Train

08/29/2010 8:22 PM

I am designing a drive train that uses the single stage PGT mechanism. However, i am not sure of how to calculate the gear ratio when the input selected is the planet carrier and the output is the anulus. Here, the sun gear is fixed. I understand that this configuration makes the anulus turn faster than the carrier but am not sure of the formula to be used.

Check it

It has a sample calculation and also some animations to boot.
