What is actually a 3/2 limit switch?

Without being able to see one from here, the term might be an inadvertent concatenation of "3/2 solenoid valve" and "limit switch", which are two separate animals that don't mate often.

perhaps a 3 way, 2 position, mechanically operate valve (pneumatic or hydraulic) used as a limit switch in a pneumatic or hydraulic control circuit.
