Displacer Level Transmitter (Torque Tube Type)

09/05/2010 6:28 AM

Hello Everybody,

i'd like to ask about the advantages and disadvantages of using displacer level transmitter (torque tube type) rather than displcer common type.

also, could anyone tell me if there are any precautions to use torque tube type as top mounted or side mounted?, and if there are any additional accessories required for installation?

Thanks and regads,

Enppi,

Top or Side mounted for me is depending of how often maintenance that will need the equipment, the operation condition where is installed the transmitter, If the equipment will be installed in a drum or vessel that can be take off of service without affect the operation of some process you can choose top mounted.

But, if the vessel or drum cannot be removed of the operation is prefered choose side mounted, external cage or stand pipe.

Torque tube displacer has mechanical link and this could be a feeble point for this equipments, We have a lot displacer transmitter with LVDT and they are working very good almost 7 years without fails.

The other point is the calibration, the torque tube if my mind not fail, it need be removed the upper element of the transmitter in order to check the mechanical link and then to apply liquid with a specific gravity equal to the liquid measured.

The LVDT, without to want do propagand to certain company, for this case magnetrol, they have a modulevel displacer level transmitter, top mounted or side mounted, whatever you want, they sell a bench stand calibration, therefore you dont need apply liquid inside the displacer chamber, only put the LVDT housing on this bench stand and through a little rule where is marked a specific gravity scale, you can calibrate the transmitter putting the specific gravity corresponding to the liquid that is being measuring, even interface level.

Regards

JP
