Can any body provide links for distance learning/ training of older generations of electrician about new microprocessor control devices , their trouble shooting and repairs ?

Contact the suppliers of these types of equipment directly. Allen Bradley (usual disclaimer) for example run a number of training courses in the UK, and therefore probably worldwide.
