50 Watt LED Driver, Power Supply

09/14/2010 4:10 PM

Hi,

I just got a Phlatlight LED. It will draw up to 13.5 A at around 3-4.5 V (cbt-90)

Now I need a small driver, if possible dimmable. Up to 10 A is enough for my application.

But I cant find any drivers which deliver more than 3 A. Is there a simple circuit, or IC which would support my needs.

I will be using a 13.8 V power supply.

Can anybody give some help?

many regards

johnny

Johnny,

Google came up with this http://www.google.com/products?q=led+driver&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=PN6PTOjzMMH58Abt2o2NDg&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CEEQrQQwAg

After a VERY brief browse, none appeared to have 10A output. This site does list several manufacturers so maybe you will want to call a few and see what they have to offer other than what is on this site.

This site http://www.exar.com/Files/Documents/DesignSolution66.pdf has a driver - 15V in - 3.5-4.5V out - 10A nominal – 25A peak capable LED Driver

You may even consider a Google search "PhlatLight 10A Driver"

If you have some technical background why not try computer power supply.

Its 5V is well rated above 15A

Hi,

I did consider a PC power supply, but I have to regulate the current to 10 A. LEDs are not all the same, and just 0.1 V more or less will result in a massive current change, which can quickly destroy the LED.
