Flat Face vs. Raised Face

Hi Guys.. I am an Instrumentation Engineer.. Keen to know the application advantages, disadvantages and differences between RF & FF Flanges.

Here's some:

  • A flat face flange requires only cutting and drilling from flat material. A raised face flange requires machining or moulding to provide the raised face and any corrugations in it.
  • The joint in a raised face flange can be pulled in to a higher pressure than a flat face joint for the same bolting torque on account of the lower contact area.
