Ripple Formation

when we through a stone in a pond ripples are formed. Why?

When the stone contacts the water, that is the visual way the water absorbs the energy - and transmitting it away from the impact point.

I'd suggest you think about it and try to form your own theory, maybe do some experiments displacing solids and liquids and seeing how they move and if they try to return to their start point. Maybe a pendulum is a good analogy.
