How to choose a correct motor for pushing specific load on guides or rails?

Hi,

I want to choose a motor to push load with 1000 kg weight.

and the load is set up on sliding guides.

However, the specifications of sliding guides only tell me the size and corrospoding capacity of the weight, and don't tell me the friction data. Therefore, I don't know how to
calculate how much force is needed to puch the load on guides.

Therefore, I have no idea how to choose the correct power of motor, and how to choose deceleration ratio.

Is there any good method or reference data which can help me to decide the torque or power of motor? thanks!

Set the guides up, put the load on it and then pull it with a spring gauge or push it with your bathroom scales. That will tell you how much force is required to move the load.

Then, you can choose the motor and drive. Chain/gear/screw, the choices are many.

Have you considered how to actually move the load?

Thank you for your good answer.

Your suggestion is very practical and useful, and can get most precise data.

However, now I am under design stage and all specifications and size of every parts must be arranged well before any parts are manufactured or bought.

Because of time, and office operating system, it's a little hard for my current situation to manufacture parts which result 1000kg load, and buy slides and guides first to do pushing force test.

So I want to know if there is any reference data for common load/guides situation.

I know it sounds not practical and precise enough, but......forced by situation.........thank you!

Well, the roughness of the surface it is sliding on and the roughness of the underside of the 1000kg object would enter into it. This is O-level physics stuff...

  • What's wrong with putting it on wheels/ball bearings/rollers/air cushions/water film/oil film and trimming the push force to about 1/250 of its weight?
  • What's wrong with using levers to multiply the effect of the applied force?
  • Etc.

I don't have a table of friction coefficients in front of me, but if I recall correctly UHMW-PE on steel is about 0.16. Using this only as an example, you would then need 160 kgf to move the weight. Then it depends on how fast you want to move it, considering both friction and acceleration.
