Sounds like it is flooding. Check the air filter. A clean air filter can still be too moist to flow if it has gotten wet. Other wise, have the computer checked. The analysis machines will tell you what's happening, worth the fee.

I would suggest you check your fuel pressure, sounds typical for a GM product with a weak fuel pump.

Too little information. Hot start, cold start, both? Has it been checked by computer? Temp sender? Intake air leak confusing mass air flow sensor?

Actually, it has been reported that American vehicles enjoy a higher percentage of reliability than British vehicles, we are second only to Germany and Japan. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just report on what I glean off the internet. G'day Sir.

its not an opinon its a fact based on the amount of request for information on here.

just because i live in the UK does not mean i favour the Junk called cars made here.

i personaly like japanese cars mainly because they are more reliable certainly than British cars.

Sorry... completely wrong again. You have not done the math. The Chevy full-sized pickups do not show up here with an unusually high number of problems. In fact they show up with a number of inquiries that is lower than expected, given that they are usually the best selling vehicles (outselling every car) in the US. (The Ford F150 usually comes out on top, but pairing the Chevy Silverado and the identical GMC Sierra truck puts the GM truck on top.)

The Cavalier appears to have loads of problems, and I personally think they are pretty trashy... but even then, there is not enough data, nor are there adequate survey methods to make any real conclusions, based only on CR4 info requests. Perhaps Cavalier owners are more likely to do their own work... perhaps they are pickier than other car owners and bring up problems here that other owners just put up with. Most likely, they are the crappy little cars we think they are, but gut feel re number of CR4 postings does not make that case... not in an forum frequented by scientists and engineers.

Aside from the fact that your post could be considered abrasive and potentially insulting to this truck owner, your links offer no support at all for your contention that a Chevy 1500 (a truck) is the least reliable car in the world. Obviously it's not a car, but if you meant vehicle, you are still completely wrong. Both the Ford and Chevy pickups are quite reliable.

I'd recommend that you learn how to do an effective search. You might try Google, where, with an effective search, you would find that the Chevy pickups are among the most reliable:

  • According to J.D. Power, the most reliable pickups include the Cadillac Escalade EXT; Chevrolet's Silverado; Ford's F-150, F-250 and F-350; the GMC Sierra; and Toyota's Tacoma and Tundra.

(The Silverado is Chevy's trade name for the 1500, 2500, 3500 series of pickup trucks.)

Fuel Pump. I have a 1999 and 2000 set of Chevy Suburban's with the 350. I have become an unfortunate expert at replacing the fuel pump(s). Also, make sure that you check all of the grounds and connections while you have the tank dropped and insure that there's no corrosion interfering with the connections. If you are planning on keeping this rig, I would strongly suggest cutting an access hole that enables you to replace the pump without having to drop the tank. Make sure you get the entire assembly when you order which also includes the sending unit. Should be around $180.00. I have about $800.00 invested in fuel pumps thus far with about 420,000 miles between the two of them. Outside of that, I haven't spent a nickel, save batteries, tires and belts.

Consider the possibility that the problem could be the fuel line check valve.

Many fuel systems have a check valve that maintains fuel pressure in the fuel line near the injector(s).

If there were no check valve every time the engine was shut off the fuel line would drain and have to be recharged upon starting. The line would have to be purged of air since the fuel drained out through the fuel pump.

The way to check this is to connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel line, run the engine and note the running fuel pressure, shut the engine off and watch for whether or not the fuel pressure drops.

GA. But not in keeping with this forum. You should tell the OP about your third cousin's x brother in law that replaced the wiring harness to fix his problem.

We have way too many people that want to tell us what fixed their vehicle, rather than find the problem with the OP's vehicle.

Testing the fuel pump pressure will answer many questions about this vehicle. That is a start towards repairing this car.

Since the truck is now ten years old and you've done the most basic things, I thinl I would drop the tank and inspect the connector at the pump/gauge module. GM,s weatherpack connector pins have a very small contact area and tend to overheat with the increasing amp draw of aging fuel pumps. The pump connector pigtails are readily available and can be used to replace the burned/overheated wiring and contacts.

I am surprised no one has suggested checking vacuum lines. All vacuum lines on mine were bad. If you hadn,t done so also insure proper plug gap.
