Petal Development

10/07/2010 1:40 AM

Dear Sir,

I am srinivas, working in a small company. I am working as draughtsman for Pressure Vessels. Pressure Vessel contains dished end. There are types of dished ends.

1) Semi Ellipsoidal Dished end.

2) Torispherical dished end.

3) Hemispherical dished end.

I want to know the petal construction of dished end in manual drawing.(developing a petal of dished end).

Please tell me a book for that and reference author books for the above.

I will be thankfull, if any can provide the same.

Regards,

Srinivas

I am not familiar with the term "petal" in this context, and thus unsure of what you need. Googling "mechanical drafting textbook" gets lots of hits; some of them might be available in your location. The name Willam T. French rings a bell; that might be a textbook I once used in an older version.

Toriconical, torispherical, and hemispherical heads can be drawn with straightedge, compass, and/or circle template. Semielliptical heads can be drawn with a 30° ellipse template (major axis = 2 × minor axis), or with various constructions and a French curve.

There is a software available Plate N sheet version 4. It contains development of petals for torispherical, hemispherical dished-end etc.
