Reinforcement Pad

10/07/2010 1:39 PM

Hi, run pipe od=2900mm,thk=19mm and branch pipe od=219mm,thk=8mm

pressure operation=22 bar TEMP. OPERATION=225 degree celcius

type of pipe=API5L gr.B SEAMLESS ANGLE=90 degree

I WANT TO KNOW AM I NEED TO use reinforcement pad or no? if need dimension of pad?

gapeee...

Your question makes no sense.....IMHO, you should stand way back during startup

Following commonly used piping codes and assuming carbon steel materials, a run pipe of 2900 mm with a 19 mm wall thickness will not sustain 22 bar internal pressure.

You will need a wall thickness closer to ~100 mm

Furthermore, your D/t will be: 2900/19 or ~152. And since this ratio is > 100, the piping code rules do not apply and localized buckling effects must be considered.

(See "Tubular Steel Structures, Theory and Design"; Troitsky - Linclon Arc Welding Books)

Seamless pipe ?/?? at 2900 mm diameter......Where is your typo ?

Hi and th's for your answer, you are true ,my aim of header is not pipe,it's a drum with this od and 19 mm thickness, and the branches is a nozzle connected to the drum,

it's a steam line 22 bar and 220 degree ce...

th's if you help me?

good wishes

I think the drum has the same problem as the pipe: too thin for the pressure.

The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code has a section on nozzle reinforcement. It includes a cross-sectional drawing that shows 5 areas that must add up to the necessary part of the shell that has been removed. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy (just winging it from memory of pressure vessel days of yore).
