How to Decide the Section of Column for Force Flow

10/11/2010 7:59 AM

Hello...

i have a vertical column in which a mass of 1500kg is moving updown on LM guideways and the Centre of Gravity point is offsetted from the column centre...

in this case moving mass is connected with the column through the LM guideways ,so how can i take the force flow.. can i directly use secant formula for eccentric mass or what..

can anyone help in this ?

Regards

Send a sketch to make your problem clear and fully understandable.

According to your sketch the column is loaded with a bending moment. I would dimension it less on strength and more on stiffness to avoid deformations of the guide.
