Transformer and Alternator Ratings

why is Transformer or alternator rating is given in KVA not in KW?

Its current and voltage varies during operation and before manufacturing we dont know exact power it can deliver. Its not a question to be asked in the forum did you used search option. study power factor.

Because the Transformer/Alternator manufacturer does not know the power factor of the loads that the transformer/alternator is going to supply.

Are you responding to answer 1 or answer 2. Your wordings imply that you answered to answer 2 but wrongly mentioned that you are responding to answer 2. answer 2 is alreday polite only.

guest; most alternators are rated as follows; 10 KW, 12.5 KVA @ 80% PF or 20KW, 25KVA @ 80% PF perry

Topologically, alternator is a subset of generators.
