Reverse Osmosis is another method. An electrical supply is usually needed to run the pump!

In all seriousness though, you may be fishing for information on what is called Electrocoagulation. It's not really a "filter" per se because it does not actually remove anything, but it does kill bad organic stuff and make it easier to remove by filtering. A similar technique is called Electrofloculation. This is similar to a chemical process called Floculation wherein a chemical (metal salt like alum or FeCl) is added to polluted water. It then "sticks" to pollution molecules to make them larger and clump together to form what is called "floculant", a cottage cheese-like substance that sinks and is easy to remove and discard. Electrofloculation uses sacrificial electrodes to introduce the metals into the water. Again, it is not the "filter", but it facilitates simplistic filtering.
