PanelView 600 Screen Flipped

10/15/2010 6:43 PM

Need some help. After shift change it was noticed that the screen of the PanelView 600 was flipped. We are now seeing a mirror image of what we should be seeing. So if you can read backwards you can figure it out. Everything else seems to work.

Have tried to reset the video, and press a number of different combinations of buttons, but it hasn't helped any.

Does anyone out there know what combination of buttons we need to press to get the screen the right way?? Fun is fun, but this is confusing to the operators.

Nope, already read the manuals that we have on the shelf or on the computers. None of them address the issue. We were too late to contact customer support on the East Coast.

In the meantime, bring a mirror.

GA tornado. Good thinking.

One problem.... I've been drinking some St. Pauli Girl beer and I think I accidentally hit off topic instead of GA. I tried to correct, but don't know if it worked.

If possible, mount mirror in front of you, sit with your back to the monitor, hold keyboard in lap.

Tornado, if my attempt to reverse failed, hopefully someone will read this and cancel my OT. Good job!

You can always go back and change a GA/OT vote, but you can't simply cancel the former vote. Thanks! (I was being somewhat facetious, but a mirror actually might help under the circumstances.)

There's a little story behind my GA. When I was a kid, the family TV was a 9" black and white. It had to sit in a particular corner to get reception. I couldn't get comfortable in front of it, so I got my Mom's mirror, propped it up on the edge of the couch, laid underneath the TV stand and watched it backwards. Worked great.

The OP sounded like he was in a real pinch, a mirror could definitely get him through until a fix comes along.

This is very interesting--Have you considered pranksters? Can you re-load an old backed up copy of the application?

If you have the original panelview source files on a pc, open the PanelBuilder editor and view the displays offline. If they look normal, re-complile and load the PBA files. Reloading without re-compiling first will probably load the same corrupted copy.

Also, if this is a touch screen and the buttons are truly mirrored, this would be a display only problem, and would not effect the true touch locations of the buttons.

So for example, if your stop PB was bottom left and it is now bottom right, you would still touch bottom left.

If they use Windows as the base OS for the HMI program, there is likely a key stroke combo that does this. It's a common prank done by hacker types. For example with Windows XP, it's CTRL+ALT+ARROW KEY. Someone either pranked you or accidentally hit the right combo of keys and then panicked and will not divulge their having done it.

Find out what the basic OS is behind the Panel View you have and check the documentation for that (A-B does not like to let that info out easily but I THINK it is Window CE). But be aware, sometimes hardware mfrs will change the standard Windows commands or disable them. It may mean a "Tier 2" type of tech support call, and with Allen Bradley, that's going to cost you $$$...

I had a similar problem with windos a few years ago while using a program for making greeting cards. If You drug the arrow from one side of the screen to the other it would flip the card into a mirror image, if You continued to drag the arrow back to the other side it would flip back to normal. Don't know if this helps.

Did you try and reload the program?

Some of these touch screens have to be touched on the bottom 2 corners or top 2 corners to bring up the screen controls, also some have a way to lock the settings with a code or a switch on the inside. Someone has accidently or intentionally changed the setting. Some screens need both keys pressed for a few seconds or sequences. The manufacturer or operating system on the screen should be the answer. If all else fails read the instructions that came with the device. Good Luck.

OK. Could not figure out any keypad combination to do this. We replaced the PanelView, it loads from a memory card, and didn't have any problem with the new install. We had also cycled the power on the panelview so it would have to re-load the program but it didn't make any difference on the old one. Suspect that some driver or another went out on it. We have an exchange set up with our supplier, since you can't buy direct, so it will go back to them.

Thanks for the help to one and all!!
