No help here.

You need to do your own homework. There was no internet when most of us were learning, so we had to read books and do research, on our own.

If you were to make some selections based on the information before you, then come here and tell us why you chose the sensor you did, we might help. But I'll not do the work for you.

I do made a research about suitability of sensor and i came across the following options:-

1>IR sensor , that i am presently using in my project "Automatic Railway Gate Crossing".

Other options are: Electromagnetic relay based detection...../ By using Pressure Transducer.../ or by using RFID technology........

so ......which one of the above will be most suitable.........

Have you considered a SPST momentary switch with a paddle, mounted alongside the track so the the wheel "lip" will trip it. Then a timer to raise the gates after last car goes by?

Report back on that.

Just a good ol boy with a little thought... The way I understand it the crossing lights use a current between the rails. since the are "parallel" the only way to connect them is when a train comes by. with the welded rails you may want to use some sort of signal strength arrangement. ask a RR guy. Just go stand on a track and LOOK at them and THINK about it. hell they probably all have transponders on them now, use that. Just think about it and don't rely on someone else to get the basic ideas from.

just a little ol hi skool drop out

simple elegant solutions. thank you okum, ockum, ahkum, you know the guy with the razor.
