Is it still under warranty? Do you even know the warranty details? If it is, contact the manufacturer. If not, throw it away and buy a new one.

If it were me, I wouldn't even waste my time trying to fix it. A couple of hours of my time is worth a helluva lot more than a 2GB flash drive (at today's prices).

Look closely to see if there tiny slide switch on it to turn write protection on/off. Also click and right-click any menus associated with it to see if there is a check box or the like for toggling write protection. This is not likely to be a virus--more likely the accidental usage of the feature.

Yes, this could be the cause, most likely.

Can you read from the stick? Try it on another machine. The error msg does not sound right. I am surprised to have the OS report it as "HardDisk1", it should be refereed to by the OS according to the name of the USB port/drive name.

I have a lot of experience with this one. Do yourself a favor and don't waste time. I make nothing off of this reccomendation, but I know this product absolutely WORKS! Go to http://www.easeus.com/. You will find what your are looking for. I have retreived data from devices that I had lost all hope for.

You say it's a 2 Gig solid state hard drive.

Do you mean it's an SD card or some other physical format memory stick.

USB stick perhaps? What make/model?

If it is the sort with the separate data card, with a mechanical switch down one side, for the write protect, the switch can cause problems, usually solved by not pushing the card all the way in. Not the usb into the pc, the card into the usb holder.

There's gotta be some manual turn on/off in the device. I believe that happenned to me before .
