Mechatronics Course

10/23/2010 7:16 PM

I was wondering where to find a mechatronics course in massachusetts. I just got a job as a facilities technician(PLC) and I want to take this course apon recommendation from the guy who is training me. He is from Ireland where he took his course. I am Currently taking a PLC certification program online but I really want to expand and gain more knowledge. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

lynlynch is correct - lynlynch has managed to supply answers to all of CR4 by just using his favourite search enginer Google (he probably does not realise that there are many other search engines out there). He is fondly known as the google engineer around CR4. No education but my god is he able to use google.

Please listen to this wise person when it comes to using google. Some say that dear old Lyn gets a cut of the profits from google as he is constantly banging on about how great google is. If Lyn had any education then he would not need to use google to the extent that he does.

If you need help in using Google then simply ask Lyn - he will google the answer for you and report back to CR4 as if it was his own work (there is plenty of evidence to support this)

But thanks for being useless. That is just classic. Well done and a big GA from me. Lynlynch is quite useless as you rightly pointed out. Do you notice how much dear old Lyn uses Google? I bet if his sister asked him for a "favour" (where Lyn lives this is quite acceptable so don't laugh or be offended) then he would probably have tp Google what to do !!!

Hello simage,

Welcome to the States and to CR4! Your best bet is to seek the company whose PLCs your company uses (Allen Bradley, Siemens, GE Fanuc, etc.) They will be most happy to steer you in the direction of learning to program their merchandise.

Ask your trainer if he knows the song "The Black Velvet Band".

Mike

He never said he wasn't from the states, he said his co-worker was from Ireland.

Simage,

check out your local community college or other university that will let you take parttime courses. Find out if mechatronics has a pre-requisite that you may also have to take before taking the course. If there is one, perhaps you can negotiate with the scheduling office to audit the course or have the pre-req waived.

Where in MA are you? I'm in Western Mass. I took a course in college called Design for Manufacturing Automation that covered Allen Bradley PLCs and it covered a large amount of what I needed to know as a Manufacturing Engineer dealing with PLCs in the factory.

In addition to the other fine recommendations, you might take a look at Design News magazine (www.designnews.com). It's published bi-monthly and an article on mechatronics is included in every issue. Free webcasts and other training and information on this subject are also offered. Take a look at the current digital issue and archived articles for additional information.
