1999 Honda Accord LX Locks Not Working

10/25/2010 7:46 PM

Only the drivers side automatic lock is working. When I turn my car on, the locks are supposed to automatically lock, but only my drivers side lock does. When i use the two front lock switches, the only lock that responds is the drivers side. When I lock my car from the outside, none of the other locks automatically lock either. The car doesn't seem to have any fuses that go with the locks, so I have no idea what the problem is.

I just bought the car from a private owner, and didn't think to check if all the locks were working, i found this out on my own the day I bought it. Depending on what the problem is and how much it costs to fix it, I think i got ripped off on the price I paid.

Next time, you'll check those locks won't you.

I remember when car doors didn't lock at all.

Take it to a mechanic and get it fixed, or pretend that you have manual locks.

Call "Car Talk"

Tom and Ray will be glad to bat this around for a while.

The usual shtick in private car sales is "As is, where is"; caveat emptor. You didn't say what the price was, so it's hard to tell whether you were "ripped off."

If you ca take off the switch cover and spray some electicial spray in the switch. sounds like the contacts are dirty. I had this problem on some of my window switches. I did buy a used on first to see how it come apart.

The car is 12 years old and there is a good chance that the locks are shot. 12 Years is a good life for an electromechanical device like a power lock.

There HAS to be a fuse for the lock - get a factory manual or a good aftermarket one for it so you can find it. There may be 2 or 3 fuse panels in different locations

Pull off one of the door panels to access the non functioning lock and use a meter to see if it gets power when you try to lock it. If you have power the lock is shot. If you don't have power check the switch and wiring all the way to the fuse block. Also check any grounding lugs - they could have corrosion on them - if so clean them up - ditto for any other connections.

The wires to the lock flex everytime the doors open - the wires are usually in a plastic conduit that enters the doors by the hinges they could be broken or shorted here. Good Luck Ed

Breezyface I have a Honda Pilot and have a similar problem. My problem involves the lock actuator at a cost of $120 each. I didnt get these replaced because I have long arms. Pain in winter when hands are full fumbling with keys. This started on the passenger side now the drivers side also.

Breezyface. if you can remove the door trims and check the electrical pulse from the door lock control module to the door lock actuators it may give you a glue if your electrical cable is broken or the actuator is dead. I believed the problem is your door lock actuators as it is common problem. If it is a case then I would buy the after market door lock actuators which cost about 40 bucks for the whole set (4 doors) in Australia to replace the faulty one. the after market one is very similar to your existing actuator it would not take much modification to replace the Honda one and it is a lot cheaper than buy new one from Honda Good luck
