There's a bunch of online resources you can use to try and piece it together, but I'll have to agree with not so smart, Rosetta Stone is a great tool to learn any language, albeit it's a bit more expensive than I expected it to be.

Cheers,

Mizuti

Funny that, but it is a language (and not actually that complicated as far as languages go if english is your first language).

My advice would be to either take a proper course in french (if you are trying to do an on-line or non-interactive tape or video-based course then that may be your problem as I find it is much harder to pickup a language without personal or group interaction).

If you are still having problems try Russian first, that way french will seem a lot easier.

I learned French long ago (almost 15 years back) in Alliance-Frances. At the very beginning it was very hard to me but when I started familiar with the grammar and pronouncing tricks, it was pretty easy. I see French is much straight forward in terms of reading compared to English. Since I learned it, I hardly used French in the conversation and now am getting it almost forgotten. I mostly use it helping my daughter in her French course.

One of the hardest part of French is the various form of the verbs, it changes with the persons such as

Je suis (I am), J'ai (I have)

Tu es (you are), Tu as (You have)

Vous etes (you are with respect), Vous avez (you have with respect)

Il est (he is), Il a (he has)

Nous somme (we are), Nous avons (we have)

Elle est (she is), Elle a (she has)

Ils sons (they are – masculine), Ils ont (they have)

Elles sont (they are – feminine), Elles ont (they have)

I would suggest you not to give up. If you really need to learn, stick to it and you will succeed. I have seen our first class started with full around 25 people but ends with only five.

Bonne chance avec la langue France.

Move to Paris, France and do not let anyone speak English to you. Insist that they speak only in French. In a matter of a few years, you will learn the French language, at least well enough to be understood. Then come back and tell us how your life improved after meeting that cute little French gal.

And why not Quebec, then?

Just curious.

Parisian French is considered by some to be the only true French. But okay, maybe Quebec or Haiti would be options.
