Looking for Research Help in a New Concept

11/03/2010 8:36 AM

I read a thread that was a debate between gadgetman and blink and learned a lot.

Then I found out that Blink left the forum, what a shame. He had posted information for gadgetman to go to a university in his area and have dyno testing done with bsfc (brake specific fuel consumption) testing done. I am looking for a university in my area that can do this and will hopefully be able to do it for free, as I do not have the money to spend on the testing. Unless it would be really inexpensive. I am starting a company (Reengineering Dynamics, LLC) and my major obstacle is the proof that the systems that I have designed work. I have been polishing intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds and turbo housings to a mirror finish to achieve power increase and fuel mileage increase at the same time. I have done this process on several vehicles with great results, but no scientific data. I was thinking that Georgia Tech may have the facilities for this but I don't know how to find out. I live in the Lawrenceville, Grayson area of Georgia. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe a search on "dynamometer testing" might turn up some shops in your area, or you could ask some local mechanics if they know of any. You could always ask if they are willing to do some pro bono testing or other discount.

Actually, I am a local mechanic (automotive technician) and I called a local dyno shop and asked if they had the equipment to do BSFC testing and they do not. The owner of the shop told me that I would actually need to use an engine dyno, not a chassis (inertia) dyno and would need to use Depac software. If anyone knows where this can be done, please let me know. It seems to be a daunting task to prove my systems. I don't want to run around with testimonials saying, "It works, why don't you believe me?", because I probably wouldn't believe it either without scientific proof (quantifiable data.)

The last I heard of gadgetman he was working with a college in Arkansas.

You can send him a PM (private mail) through CR4. He is a member. He did have an office down the street from mine in Mesa AZ and was working with a local shop, but he's moved on.

He sent this to me some time ago.

I'll PM his email address to you.

In the thread "The Anti-Science--Part I", there was a (let's call it) spirited exchange between Roger Pink and Blink. Both were then unseen for a while. I dubbed this the
"Ink Wars."
