Ignorance has Mass

11/05/2010 11:12 AM

If we study quantum mechanics,we (at least I have) arrive at the conclusion that reality is subjective;relative to the individual perception of such.Nothing exists until, and if it is measured or observed.

Dark matter is simply the mass of our ignorance, as is dark energy, one and the same.;

We cannot measure it directly, we cannot observe it, we can merely observe the effects it has on other matter.

By definition, when we discover what it is, it is no longer dark matter or dark energy.

Therefor, the mass of our ignorance is 95% of the mass and energy of the universe.

That explains why we refer to some people as "dense."

Indeed it does. And when enough ignorance coalesces in one location, the fabric of space-time twists in upon itself and an object is formed which so dense that no reasoning can ever escape from it. We call these objects politicians.

On the contrary ... no one ELSE's reasoning can escape; but their own does since it has no substance. DZ (And kudos to Dilbert)

Aren't the politicians just the conduit that forms from local dimensional collapse, and the extremist from groups like the Tea party or enviroactivists are the dense objects that precipitate the occurrence of politicians.

So what you say is that it's subjective and in or minds we have created this dark matter. That the collective conscience through ignorance has made it so. If we stop thinking about it it will go away. Hmmm wonder if it will work on people too.

If there are no sentient beings in the universe, everything will be dark matter and energy and it won't matter.Or,for that matter (pardon the pun),what if all beings were blind? How would that change the reality of OUR universe? To never see a star, or the moon, or sunrise, or sunset, or to ponder the depths of the universe or the ocean, or the reason for our existence?

"Reality is an illusion, but a very convincing one." said Einstein, and I have to agree.

I would like to have had Helen Keller's take on dark matter and energy.I am sure she would have shined light into the dark corners of our existence and ignorance.

Good point. It used to be that we could only observe stuff in visible wavelengths; now, as we're observing in ever-higher and -lower wavelengths, we're literally lighting up the Universe. I'm afraid. I knew that the Sun's going to swell and that we'll fry in a few billion years; but now, we may get slowly roasted a lot sooner. DZ

Helen Keller ... interesting point. I suppose that if she had been Einstein, we'd be talking of the speed of dark. Cheers! DZ (Kudos again, this time to Steven Wright)

there are days, that I'd love to just pull the covers over my head and never get out of bed.

But then I realize that there's idiots out there that need to be laughed at, or felt sorry for, so I get up anyway.

Can the collective mass of political ignorance be lifted by harnessing the hot air it generates?

The political mass of political ignorance is so massive it forms a black hole, from which nothing can escape.Stray to close to the event horizon, and you are doomed.

The event horizon in the United States is Washington DC,and for the world at large, it is the U.N.

IMHO, of course.

Re: Ignorance has Mass

I am reminded of the story of the man, lost, and traveling on a unfamiliar dirt road, full of mud puddles, potholes, and various obstacles. He had successfully negotiated around and through several large mud puddles, but he approached a very large mud puddle and stopped, unsure if he could make it or not.

While studying the situation, he noticed a farmer nearby, plowing a field,so he asked the farmer for advice:"Is that mud puddle very deep?"

"Nope. But it IS very long"

"Thanks"

He backs up,gets the car up to speed and charges headlong onto the puddle. The car disappears below the water. The driver finally surfaces, choking and sputtering, and crawls to shore. The farmer is still there, watching.

"I thought you told me it was not very deep!"

"I don't understand it, it only comes up to here (pointing to his chest)on my ducks."

Some statements are like the puddle:They are deeper than they appear, and are not understood by everyone.

For the benefit of those unfamiliar with southern colloquialisms, when someone says:"It is deeper than it is wide", they are referring to a complex subject that requires more than a passing thought.
