Once I had to add a salt and water to the soil around a ground to improve the ground for RF reception. I must stress though that this was a temporary installation. Grounding quality varies wildly with your geology and soil conditions. (Is that redundant?) How critical your ground quality will also depend on the purpose for your ground; power station ground, lightning protection, building ground, RF or other sensitive electronic work, etc.

Consult with your local building code and/or building inspector for what is acceptable for your location. You may just have to add a halo ring and more rods.

As mentioned, grounding varies wildly with the local conditions. Are you in clay, sand, bedrock etc.

I have had occasion where we had to drive about 6 rods interconnected adn about 3 meters apart to a depth of 6 meters to achieve the proper grouding.

See if there is a local Lightning Protection and Grounding installation company in your area. They will be able to guide you on this matter.

Also, how are you measuring the ground resistance?

In conjunction with lynlynch's advice, also try a Google search of "chemical ground rod".

You may find something there that will help.

Good luck - KJK

In the absence of salt water to improve the earth connection, large quantities of animal urine can sometimes prove an acceptable substitute.
